BASALT

The basalt is a volcanic natural stone ; it forms from the solidification of lava after an eruption. It is characterised by its dark colour, with shades of black or dark grey.
A hard, highly resistant and durable rock, it is used to make pavers.

It is also suitable for making:

• Palisades
• Skirting;
• Steps and risers;
• Wall coping and cladding;
• Paving or pool coping;
• Edging

Basalt is a natural stone renowned for its durability; it suits any type of setting.

Thanks to its dark colour, it brings a clean, sophisticated look to your indoor or outdoor design. It also blends perfectly with many colour palettes. Combined with other materials (wood, metal, glass), it creates an interesting visual contrast.

Its price varies depending on many factors. Indeed, this stone can be sold in different forms: paving, palisades, pavers, cladding, steps, edging…

Its price therefore varies according to its use, shape, dimensions and finish.

Minéral Pierre Naturelle offers different finishes to suit your wishes; you can find:

· A natural finish: the stone is worked to give it a raw, natural appearance.

· A honed finish: the stone is smoothed and has no roughness.

· A flamed finish: the stone has a smooth surface, but rougher than the honed finish. To obtain this type of finish, the stone is heated with a blowtorch.

Basalt is a natural stone that lends itself well to this type of project.

It can be installed outdoors. It withstands frost very well, bad weather and sun exposure without deteriorating. It has been used for centuries in particular to make pavers.

When basalt is used for an outdoor installation (pavers, pool copings, paving and steps), periodic cleaning is sufficient. Using a water jet and a scrubbing brush is recommended. 

For floors with heavier soiling, we recommend using the product Lithofin Multi-Cleaner. 

To deep-clean stubborn organic dirt (lichen, fruit stains), the product Lithofin MN Exterior Cleaner is recommended. 

As a natural rock resistant to acids, the Lithofin Cement Remover is effective for removing ingrained dirt and alterations caused by rust (yellowing or discoloration). 
For an indoor basalt staircase, the maintenance product Lithofin Wash & Clean is recommended. 

In France, quarries are located mainly in the Massif Central, Ardèche and Auvergne.

This volcanic rock is also found in many regions of the world. There are notably various quarries in Russia, India, the United States, Vietnam, China, Turkey and even Algeria.

In Europe, the best-known quarries are located in Italy (Rome, Sicily) and Germany.
