Decorative gravels mainly come in several types, each with its own advantages:

  • Crushed gravel: This type of gravel comes from the crushing of natural stones such as limestone, granite or slate. It offers good stability for paths, driveable areas and decorative mulching. Its angular shape provides good hold on the ground.

  • Decorative pebbles (or rounded gravel): Rounded and smooth, pebbles are perfect for decorating gardens, flower beds or pool surrounds. They provide a natural and aesthetic effect, often in white, black or multicolor. More rounded than crushed gravel, they are suited to pedestrian areas and landscaping where aesthetics are paramount.

Each type of decorative gravel has its own specifics: strength, aesthetics, ease of installation and maintenance, to suit all your projects depending on price, availability and packaging (bag, big bag).

To ensure the stability and durability of your decorative gravel, it is
essential to prepare the surface properly and choose the right materials to place
under the gravel.

The gravel stabilizer panel is the ideal solution for stabilizing crushed gravel
or decorative pebbles on your paths, terraces or parking areas. This panel, made of robust materials, is laid directly on a leveled base to stop the gravel from moving or sinking into the ground.

Under the stabilizer panel, we generally recommend placing:

  • A layer of crushed gravel or fine gravel to ensure good drainage and a solid base.
  • A geotextile felt : add link to prevent weeds from growing while letting water through.
  • Sometimes, a layer of sand or fine crushed stone for perfect leveling.

This stabilizer panel makes it possible to optimize the installation of decorative gravel, while making maintenance easier and reducing the quantity needed.

In store or online, we offer gravel stabilizer panels suited to all types of projects, with excellent value for money, immediate availability in stock and fast delivery.

The volume of decorative gravel needed depends on the area to be covered and the desired thickness:

  • For a driveway or a pedestrian path, allow approximately 3 to 5 cm thickness.
  • For decorative mulching in the garden, a thickness of 5 to 7 cm is recommended.

For a bed of fine gravel or decorative gravel with a thickness of 3 cm, here is the average consumption depending on the packaging:

  • 1 bag of 25 kg covers approximately 0.5 m
  • Big Bag ¼ m³ (14 bags) = 7 m²
  • Big Bag ½ m³ (i.e. 30 bags of 25 kg) = 15 m²
  • Big Bag 1 m³ (i.e. 60 bags of 25 kg) = 33 m²

📏 Remember: 1 m² at 3 cm thickness = approx. 50 kg of gravel

Practical example:

For a project of 50 m² with a thickness of 5 cm, allow approximately:

  • 0.05 to 0.07 tonne/m²
→ i.e. 2.5 to 3.5 tonnes depending on the type of gravel.

Our teams will assist you in store or by phone to adapt the right
packaging (bag, big bag or bulk)
to your area, the desired thickness and the type of gravel (crushed, rounded, decorative...).
