3D-designed bathroom with stone-effect tiles and a travertine basin in Sarreguemines

The project

A couple from Sarreguemines wanted to transform the bathroom of their 1980s house, with a walk-in shower instead of the bath and a warm, mineral feel.

The choices

In the Carrelage et Bain area of our Woustviller store, the bathroom was drawn in 3D to confirm the layout and colours. The choice fell on Land Sand stone-effect tiles in 120 × 60 cm for the floor and shower walls, and a rectangular Roman travertine basin.

Large formats limit joints, which makes cleaning a shower easier. The travertine basin, cut from a block of stone, is a one-off piece whose shades vary from one item to another.

Installation

A local tiler-plumber carried out the work in about three weeks, based on the 3D plan.

Large formats require a very flat substrate, back-buttering and preferably a levelling system to avoid lippage between tiles. It is a job for a tiler experienced with these formats.

The result

A bathroom of about 9 m², with a walk-in shower, stone-effect floor and walls and a travertine basin.

The travertine basin benefits from a water- and oil-repellent treatment and cleaning with a pH-neutral soap; the porcelain needs no treatment at all.
