Almendra limestone cobble driveway in Lunéville
A driveway in Almendra Old Town limestone cobbles in front of an old house in Lunéville: about 55 m² of natural cobbles.
The project
In front of an old town house in Lunéville, the gravel driveway was full of ruts. The owners were looking for a surface suitable for cars that matched the character of the façade.
The choices
Almendra Old Town cobbles were chosen for their light beige shade and their old-world cobbled-street look.
With their split widths, sawn faces and tumbled finish, these limestone cobbles evoke traditional cobbled streets while ensuring stable installation. The random length and three widths allow a natural, lively random laying pattern.
Installation
A local landscaper carried out the excavation, the foundation and the installation on mortar in about two weeks.
For a driveway, the cobbles rest on a compacted aggregate foundation, then on a bedding layer of sand, grit or mortar depending on expected traffic. Joints in sand, polymeric sand or mortar stabilise the whole, and an edging around the perimeter keeps the cobbles from shifting.
The result
About 55 m² of stable, light-coloured driveway in a stone that matches the old house.
A natural cobble driveway develops a patina over time without losing its qualities; regular sweeping and occasional cleaning are enough, and a damaged cobble can be replaced individually.
