Sinai Pearl limestone floor in Saint-Étienne

The project

While renovating a town house in Saint-Étienne, the owners opened the kitchen onto the living room. They wanted a single, light natural stone floor over the new underfloor heating.

The choices

Sandblasted-brushed Sinai Pearl limestone was chosen for its cream colour and soft feel, with skirting in the same stone.

Indoors, the sandblasted-brushed finish gives a slightly textured feel, less slippery than polished stone, and hides everyday marks better. Matching skirting gives a neat finish at the base of the walls.

Installation

A local tiler laid the floor and skirting in about ten days, then applied a protective treatment.

Indoors, natural stone is bonded to a dry, flat screed with an adhesive suited to stone (light-coloured for light stones). It is compatible with underfloor heating. A protective treatment is applied after laying.

The result

About 55 m² of light, continuous floor between kitchen and living room, finished with matching skirting.

Day to day, a limestone floor is cleaned with a pH-neutral soap; an anti-stain treatment, renewed according to use, preserves its appearance, especially in living areas and kitchens.
